As the world continues to combat the spread of COVID-19, many nations are turning their attention towards prevention methods in care homes and centers. Because of the high risk of residents who require the services of these institutions, it is vitally important to stop the spread of the pandemic at the first sign of infection. To help with this endeavor, AAEON, a leader in IoT and AI Edge solutions, has donated an OMNI-2251-SKU panel PC with AI powered fever and mask detection software to assist in monitoring residents at the Ai-De Disability Rehab Center of the Eden Social Welfare Foundation in Tamsui District, New Taipei City.

The donation ceremony was held on July 24th at the Ai-De Disability Rehab Center in Tamsui. In attendance were Cheng Liang, President of the Eden Social Welfare Foundation; Steve Hsu, Senior Consultant of AAEON; Jeffrey Chuang, Director of AAEON’s IoT Product Division, and Jianlun Yeh, Commissioner of the Division of Welfare Services for the Disabled, Social Welfare Department of New Taipei City Government. The Ai-De Disability Rehab Center is a 24-hour residential care institution for the physically and mentally handicapped, currently serving 108 residents. The thermal imaging system has been installed where residents, staff, and visitors must pass through for monitoring. If the system detects someone with a fever, it will let out a beeping sound to alert staff, to help prevent the possible spread of disease.

The thermal imaging system donate by AAEON utilizes a thermal imaging camera connect to AAEON’s OMNI-2215-SKU modular panel PC. AI software trained using Microsoft Azure Cloud Cognitive Service can not only detect individual people’s temperatures, but also if visitors and staff are wearing masks, and issue warnings if they are not. The OMNI-2215-SKU is a 21” touch screen panel PC powered by the 6th Generation Intel Core i5 processor (formerly Sky Lake), and equipped with a flexible I/O loadout to support accessories needed to help power various applications.
